Learning - Extra Curricula

T.N.I.S provides a range of exciting and interesting extra curricular opportunities. There are cultural opportunities; sports teams and other activities that students can join or take part in outside of scheduled timetabled classes.

Waterpolo

A very popular aquatic sport that is physically demanding, fun and entertaining for both spectators and participants.

Basketball

This exciting league is designed for both girls and boys with special emphasis on fundamentals, teamwork and sportsmanship.

Theatre Performance

T.N.I.S offers Theatre Performance to students to help them develop their self-confidence skills, speech skills and more.

Chess

Students have the opportunity to learn how to play the world's greatest game and meet new friends.

Cricket

Get some tips and tricks to improve your cricket technique and then participate in the Cricket Zone Day. Teams will also take part in the Milo Shield Competition.

Jazz Band

The jazz band is a specialty band for students who have played their instrument for more than a year and want to develop their skills in jazz ensemble playing. All brass instruments are accepted and some woodwind instruments. We also have space for skilled rhythm musicians- bass guitar, electric guitar, piano, keyboard and drums.

Choir

The school choir programme aims to provide an opportunity for students who love to sing, to develop their singing skills through more challenging songs. This is a non-auditioned group for any student who wants to join.

Dancesport

Dancesport is a fun way to stay fit, improve co-ordination and increase confidence while learning the discipline of popular dance styles. The programme is run by qualified instructors.

Enviro Group

At Takapuna Normal Intermediate we are striving to create a sustainable environment and to encourage students to care about the environment around them and the future of our precious planet.

Hockey

A seriously fun sport to try for the first time at Intermediate.

Kapa Haka

Kapahaka is an opportunity for students to gather together to practise and perform Maori songs and dance. Boys have an opportunity to practise their skills with the taiaha and the girls to practise their skills with the poi.

String Ensemble

String Ensemble

The String Ensemble is a musical group that includes violin, viola and cello players. We practise a variety of music from popular songs to classical works. Being part of this musical group allows you to improve your performance skills and meet new friends!

Table Tennis

An opportunity to take part in a great team and individual sport.

Orchestra

The T.N.I.S. orchestra is the largest instrumental group in the school, with over 70 members. We play a variety of music from pop songs to classical works. The orchestra provides a great opportunity to be a part of a fun group of musicians, where you will get to meet new people, play in parts and be supported by other musicians.

Percussion Group

Percussion Group

Percussion Group involves found sound (using strange objects to make music) and traditional drums to create percussive patterns. We layer our sounds and use a variety of dynamics to create really lively sound! Students do not need to play a musical instrument to be in percussion group but they do need to have a good sense of rhythm and beat, be creative and confident on stage, be committed (percussion group is a whole year commitment) and be organised.

First XV Choir

This is an auditioned group of 15 confident singers who learn more complex songs and sing them in parts.

Jump Jam

Jump Jam is a high-energy, fun fitness activity that runs in many N.Z. schools, including T.N.I.S. Mrs Wylde trains Jump Jam aerobic instructors to lead their teams in Fitness. The instructors learn the choreographed moves to upbeat music, and perform on stage for their fellow students to follow the routines.

Dance

Dance involves techniques and movements taken from a variety of dance genres such as ballet, jazz and modern dance. At T.N.I.S. our Dance group consists of a mixture of 18 Year 7 and 8 students. This dance group is student focused, with the dancers working together on choreography.
