On 3 August Year 8/1 girls and boys, and Year 7/1 girls and boys represented T.N.I.S at the North Harbour Intermediate Netball Zone Day.
All teams played extremely well with the Year 8 Boys making it to the finals. It was a nerve-wracking game as the boys scored the winning point in the last 20 seconds, winning 11-10 against Northcross Intermediate. There was some fierce competition but everyone played their hearts out despite the rain!
The Zone Winners went on to compete in the Auckland Championships last week. The played courageously against some tough competition and were placed 8th overall out of 16 teams.

This year's School Cross Country Race was held on Friday 7 August. The students trained for the 3km event each day for several weeks and there was a strong competitive spirit amongst students and teams. The course was once again set around the school grounds and the local streets. The weather was fine for the race although the grass was very wet underfoot. Staff were stationed along the route to encourage the runners at all times and we were impressed with the overall commitment the students showed.

This year's Science Fair was a huge success. The Year 8 students were challenged to undertake a scientific 'fair test' investigation and the projects were displayed in the Auditorium during the week of Student Led Conferences.
The standard of class finalists in this year's Science Fair was high. From these finalists, 22 exhibits were chosen from a wide range of topics, to represent T.N.I.S. at the North Harbour Regional Science Fair. The exhibits chosen each demonstrated strong methodology, conclusions and eye-catching presentation.

Student Led Conferences were a highlight last week, as students celebrated their learning with their parents and caregivers.
Many families came to hear their child articulate the learning process and to share their successes and challenges. Students focussed on all areas of the curriculum and gave their perspective on their next learning steps.
The teachers felt a sense of pride watching the interactions between parents and children, and listening to their students articulating their learning so clearly and honestly.

Congratulations to all students who participated in the 2010 Takapuna Normal Intermediate School Battle of the Bands. It was a tough competition with an excellent turn out of participants, all with an outstanding level of musical ability and enthusiasm.
Thanks to all the families and teachers who supported this event. A special thanks to Mr Alexander, Ms Williams and Mr Watson for being judges, Roger Smith from Music Planet in Link Drive for sponsoring the day by providing prizes for the winners and to Mrs Watson for the fantastic organisation of the whole event.

FOR YEAR 9 (FORM 3) INTAKE, 2011
OPEN EVENING
Our Open Evening will be held on Tuesday 20 July 2010. To accommodate increasing numbers of prospective students and their parents, there will be two guided tours, one beginning at 4.00pm and the second at 6.00pm. Each of the tours will begin at the school assembly hall, with the Principal’s address.
NO ENROLMENTS WILL BE TAKEN ON THE NIGHT OF THE OPEN EVENING.

On 8 June two teams represented Takapuna Normal Intermediate in the 2010 Kids' Literature Quiz at St. Cuthberts School.
In the Quiz there were 100 questions within ten different categories. The categories included: Mice, Males (a visual category), Poetry Lines, The Firsts, Insects, Gems, Colours, Famous Animals, Cannibalism, Authors, Brothers and Sisters, Family, Cars, Ducks, Giants, Mythical Beings, Females (a visual category), Time, Kidnapping, and Secrets.
